Very time consuming.

I really enjoyed the ones on the Lincoln Library and Museum in Springfield as I had visited it about 2 years ago. It is an easy day's drive from Lexington and is extremely interesting. It is also interesting to walk over to his home and see how the Park Service is dealing with the issues involved in restoring the entire block --many of the original structures have been torn down. Do they rebuild them from photos, leave the lots empty, build just an "outline" (like the Ben Franklin house in Philadelphia). Also, the Lexington History Museum in the old courthouse currently has an exhibit on Lincoln in Lexington.

This is the link to my flickr picture. What I liked about flickr. was that I could then go directly into zazzle. This picture will become a 3 cent stamp to go with our 29 cent stamp of Pence Hall.

This is the link to a photo album I made from the week I spend volunteering in New Orleans with the Hurricane Katrina animal rescue operation run by The Humane Society of the United States.

This is a blank card I made to use to thank people who donated materials/money to the Design Library. I also made a matching stamp using a picture of Pence Hall taken in 1910.

Forgot to post my del.icio.us link

del.icio.us was, for me, the easiest of the exercises and the most interesting. I was able to connect with a really good 20 min. video on urban sprawl.

Del.icio.us

Done. Thanks to Michelle Cosby at Law for help on getting connectedlibrary added to the network.

Finding other people who had sites on historic preservation was nice ---I watched a 20 min. video on urban sprawl that was excellent.

pbwiki

The wiki was easy to do. One good use would be for developing policy statements/mission statements for groups; that way, everyone can edit the draft.

Eating Green

18% of global warming emissions come from raising chickens, turkeys, pigs and other animals for food. That is about 40% more than all cars, trucks, airplanes and other forms of transport combined (13%) and more than all the homes and offices in the world put together (8%).

Going vegetarian is the green thing to do.

Valentine Rally for Romeo

Many of us followed the story of Romeo, a mixed lab breed who was stomped, slammed and beaten by his owner; a neighbor filmed the abuse. The owner has now been give a $500 fine and sentenced to 4 mos. in jail. However, under current Kentucky law, the animal is still his and when the owner gets out of jail, the dog, now in foster care with a vet, will be returned to him. There is a group negotiating to get the dog but giving Romeo up will have to be voluntary on the part of his owner/abuser.

HB 42 up for consideration in this legislative session will make forfeiture of the animal automatic with a conviction of animal cruelty or abuse and prohibit the abuser from owning any animals of the same species for 2 years. It covers all animals, not just cats and dogs.

Please call/write/email your legislators to tell them you support this bill.

There will be a rally sponsored by the Kentucky Animal Welfare Alliance and The Humane Society of the United States on Wednesday, Feb. 13 noon to l p.m. in the Capitol Rotunda to show support for this and other animal related legislation. Please tell your friends and make every effort to attend the rally. The passage of this bill will benefit Kentucky animals; no victim of abuse should be returned to his abuser.
